Ipnopidae:
Famiglia di pesci in ordine Aulopiformes. Si tratta di pesci piccoli e sottili, con la massima lunghezza che vanno da circa 10 cm. a circa 40 cm. Vivono in acque profonde temperate e tropicali dell' Oceano Atlantico, Indiano e Pacifico.
Un certo numero di specie, in particolare nel genere Bathypterois hanno allungato le pinne pettorali e pelviche.
Nel Bathypterois grallator, queste pinne sono tre volte più lunghe, del corpo - fino ad un mt. di lunghezza - e sono utilizzati per camminare sul fondo marino.
